Byte-Sized Brief
- Samsung confirms tri-fold phone is coming.
- Launch expected later this year.
- Final product name still undecided.
Samsung just revealed the Galaxy Z Fold 7, but if two screens still don’t cut it, be patient, because a tri-fold phone might be next. Despite no mention of the device at the latest Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung’s mobile chief, TM Roh, confirmed to The Korea Times that the company is aiming to launch the tri-fold sometime “within this year.” He says they’re still ironing out the name (rumors are calling it the Galaxy G Fold) and overall usability, but the hardware is nearly there.
The company first teased this concept with the Flex S and Flex G at MWC back in 2023. And while some executives admit they are still figuring out what people would actually use a tri-fold for, Samsung seems confident that it’s more than just a cool prototype. If you’ve been waiting for a phone that folds twice, or love the idea of a phone-tablet hybrid, you might not be waiting much longer.
The Bottom Line
Samsung has confirmed that it’s working on a tri-fold smartphone and could launch it before the end of 2025. Its name is still being worked on, but the hardware is nearly finished.
