Season 2 of Wednesday doesn’t release until August 2025. So, while I wait, I’ve been passing the time with other shows across multiple streaming platforms that cover similar themes, star the same actors, or are just dark and funny in tone.

The Sandman

The Sandman is among the easiest recommendations I can make. Dream, whose existence is the reason people dream, was held captive for over a century. When he finally escapes, he returns to his realm, the Dreaming, but finds it in ruins. The Sandman covers his quest to restore it to its former glory.

While none of the cast of Wednesday appear in The Sandman, it is quite supernatural in nature. In fact, Dream himself is a force of nature, as are his siblings. And one of the main characters, Rose, has similar struggles to Wednesday, specifically with her powers and family.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Why wait for Wednesday when you could fill it with another supernatural, teen drama? The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based on the same Archie comic book that gave us Sabrina the Teenage Witch. However, this adaptation is more horror than comedy.

More importantly, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has similar vibes to Wednesday. Sabrina has supernatural witch powers and struggles to balance the two.

Fallout

Fallout is arguably the best live-action adaptation of a video game I’ve ever seen, but you don’t need to have played the games to understand; in fact, it’s quite friendly to newcomers.

Earth has been devastated by nuclear war, but there are survivors. Some survived on the surface, living in a lawless land, while others survived for decades, even centuries, underground in fallout bunkers. Lucy is of the latter, and leaves the safety of Vault 33 to find her father.

What We Do in the Shadows

I adore the movie What We Do in the Shadows; it’s among my favorite comedies. The show What We Do in the Shadows is more of that across six whole seasons. It has comedy, it has horror, it has vampires, and supernatural creatures.

Like Wednesday, identity is front and center in the show, and it’s hilarious watching vampires try to fit in with the modern world. Matt Berry is particularly funny and a highlight of the show. I’m still recovering from his performance in Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace.

The Umbrella Academy

Do you like superheroes? The Umbrella Academy mixes interesting powers with mystery, drama, and a dysfunctional family trying to prevent an apocalypse. The show is very character-driven, as each deals with the death of their father differently, and the powers are used in really unique ways.

Locke & Key

While you’re waiting for Wednesday season 2 to release, how about you visit another creepy house full of secrets and mystery in Locke & Key? It’s an adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic series of the same name (which you should also read).

Locke & Key follows the Locke siblings, as they uncover the mystery of their home. Naturally, given the age of the house and the weird stuff going on, they experience supernatural happenings.

Yellowjackets

If you want more Christina Ricci (who played Marilyn Thornhill), you’ll get a heavy dose of her in Yellowjackets, which revolves around a soccer team stranded in the woods for over a year. It also stars Ella Purnell from Fallout.

Yellowjackets is one big mystery and splits the story between the past and present. You’ll slowly learn dark and terrible secrets that the survivors try to desperately hide.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

While I admit I prefer Jim Carrey as Count Olaf, Neil Patrick Harris is exceptional as Count Olaf too, and A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix has the benefit of actually having an ending.

At any rate, the show shares similar vibes to Wednesday, minus the supernatural element. It has mystery, intrigue, and Violet Baudelaire is just as much of a headstrong and intelligent character as Wednesday.

I Am Not Okay With This

Another show that seamlessly blends supernatural elements with drama is I Am Not Okay With This, starring Sophia Lillis (It, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves). The characters also struggle with growing up, finding love, friendships, family, even identity.

The supernatural aspect has to do with Sydney (Sophia Lillis), who discovers she has telekinesis, which is a good vehicle for conveying a person’s control over their lives.

The Addams Family (1964)

If you can’t get enough of Wednesday as a character, and you don’t mind black-and-white television, then the original Addams Family show from 1964 will hold you over. Were you to watch an episode a day, starting in June, you’d have enough episodes to watch up until Wednesday season 2 releases.

There’s definitely more than enough content here to keep you busy while you wait for season 2 of Wednesday. That said, I still recommend these shows even after you’ve finished the second season!
