We’ve known for quite some time that DJI is gearing up to launch a new 360-degree camera, but it’s only recently that we’ve seen proper leaks of the DJI Osmo 360 – and it looks like it could be serious competition for the Insta360 X5 once it launches.
Fresh images posted by leaker @GAtamer on X show the camera in detail, revealing a compact design with dual front- and rear-facing lenses, an integrated touchscreen and what looks to be an accessory mount.
Specs-wise, it’s shaping up to be a direct match for the popular Insta360 X5.
The leaker claims that the Osmo 360 will offer “almost the same” hardware, an impressive claim considering the X5 shoots crisp 8K@30fps 360-degree video using dual 1/1.28-inch sensors, with excellent low-light performance and over three hours of battery life.
In fact, we gave the Insta360 X5 an impressive 4.5 stars when we reviewed it in April, praising its impressive image quality – both in well-lit and low-light environments – in particular. If DJI can match or improve upon what Insta360 offers, it could be one of the best 360-degree cameras around.
But when will it be released?
Interestingly, a separate leak from @Quadro_News seems to showcase the DJI Osmo 360 in some kind of packaging, again able to see the camera lenses and overall shape of the upcoming action camera. This seems to suggest that DJI is close to getting ready to ship its first official 360-degree camera.
That aligns with a report from late May, with Chinese website IT Home claiming that the DJI Osmo 360 will launch in July 2025 – though no specific date was provided.
With the X5 currently dominating the creator-focused 360 space, all eyes are now on DJI to see if it can deliver a true rival. Based on what we’ve seen so far, the Osmo 360 might just be it.
