Google’s Best AI Tool Can Now Create Video Explainers

Google’s AI-powered note-taking tool is getting a new feature that will make it more useful than ever. Alongside its existing Audio Overviews, which turn your notes into a podcast with AI hosts, Video Overviews will turn your notes into video explainers.

NotebookLM Creates Video Overviews

At Google I/O 2025, Google announced that NotebookLM is now capable of generating Video Overviews. While the feature isn’t yet ready for public consumption, with Google only able to say that it’s “coming soon,” the company has felt comfortable enough to preview the feature in a couple of different ways.

This official announcement confirms the Video Overviews feature that was spotted in early May.

NotebookLM’s Video Overviews work in the same way as the existing Audio Overviews, just with video rather than audio. They’ll take your notes on a subject and turn them into a video explainer. However, unlike the Audio Overviews, Video Overviews can include visual elements such as photos, images, diagrams, and more.

AI-generated video has been around for a while now, but the results are mixed to say the least. While AI-generated static images are finally coming of age, video is lagging behind for obvious reasons. But NotebookLM’s Video Overviews look mightily impressive in preview, as you can see below.

This is likely to be a work in progress which will grow to be even more impressive over time. But to be honest, if the above preview Google provided is representative of what NotebookLM is capable of, I’m already impressed enough to know I’ll be using this feature once it launches.

The key to NotebookLM’s Video Overviews is that they’ll help visual learners who absorb information better when it’s presented in a visual manner. And Google sought to demonstrate this fact by having NotebookLM create a Video Overview summarizing its notebook of the keynote announcements from Google I/O 2025.

More than the official preview, which comes with a number of caveats about it being simulated for illustrative purposes, this shows the potential power of the feature. Google announced a lot of things at I/O 2025, so to have NotebookLM sum them up so succinctly is quite an achievement.

NotebookLM is already a fantastic tool that’s likely underutilized by people who are otherwise fully onboard the AI hype train. By going viral, the Audio Overviews feature helped more people discover NotebookLM, so hopefully the Video Overviews feature will have a similar impact when it drops.

Especially with NotebookLM now being available on mobile as well as the web.
