The Galaxy S25 Edge is the slimmest flagship in 2025

Here’s exactly how the Galaxy S25 Edge stacks up to some of the most popular flagship phones in 2025. 

As you can see, the Galaxy S25 Edge is the thinnest smartphone on the market by quite a sizeable gap, with the second-thinnest phone being Samsung’s compact flagship, the regular Galaxy S25. 

Beyond competition from Samsung’s own flagships, the gap is even more noticeable, with the likes of the iPhone 16 Pro Max measuring in at 8.3mm, a whole 2.5mm thicker, and an additional 64g too. 

That’s especially true when compared to the 9.4mm-thick Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Though that’s an outlier in the flagship market, with most measuring somewhere between 7.8mm and 8.3mm, it does make for a rather dramatic difference when compared to the S25 Edge. 

Interestingly, it’s not actually the lightest flagship on the market; that’d go to the Galaxy S25, which at 162g, pips the Edge to the win by just 1g. However, the Galaxy S25 is a much more compact phone than the S25 Edge, with a 6.2-inch screen compared to the S25 Edge’s 6.7-inch panel. 

When it comes to phones with similar-sized screens – the Galaxy S25 Plus, iPhone 16 Plus, Sony Xperia 1 VII and Oppo Find X8 Pro – the difference is way more stark. That, in essence, is what makes the Galaxy S25 Edge such a marvel in the 2025 flagship market. 

10-year rewind: Are we going back to where we were?

Handling the Galaxy S25 Edge felt oddly nostalgic, which was weird considering it was the first time I’d ever seen the phone. At the time, I couldn’t figure out why. 

It was only when I got back to the Trusted Reviews office and, for something completely unrelated, picked up an early model of Google Pixel that I realised why; phones used to be so much thinner and lighter.

If we go back even further, before the inception of the Google Pixel line, it becomes clearer to see. 2015 phones like the Samsung Galaxy S6 were much thinner and lighter to hold than their 2025 counterparts. 

It’s not a change most will notice as phones have gradually gotten thicker and heavier over the course of years, as more advanced technology gets introduced. Pick up an old smartphone in your drawer, and you’ll quickly notice just how heavy your current phone is – even if it’s not a chonk like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. 

The question is, then, with the release of the ultra-thin and ultra-light Galaxy S25 Edge, and with the rumoured iPhone 17 Air later this year, are we headed back to where we were 10 years ago? In terms of overall thickness and weight, at least, we could well be.
