The Download
- If your message doesn’t go through, you might be blocked or they deleted their account.
- Try searching their Facebook profile; if itâs invisible to you, they might have blocked you.
- If your chat history disappeared, they could have blocked and then unblocked you.
This article explains how to tell if someone blocked you on Facebook Messenger. If you weren’t blocked, we’ll go over some other possible reasons they haven’t read your message.
How to Know If You’ve Been Blocked on Messenger
Walk through these steps in order and you’ll quickly find out if you are currently blocked or have been blocked in the past:
Send the person a message. Even if they don’t read it, the fact that the message goes through means they haven’t blocked you.
Try to start a new conversation with them. If you can’t find them anywhere, especially if you were just chatting, there’s a strong chance they blocked you.
Visit their Facebook profile. If it’s nowhere to be found while you’re logged in to your account, and especially if you can find it when you search from a friend’s account, they’ve most likely added you to their block list.
Watch for error messages. If you’re in an existing conversation with the person and you see a Message Not Sent pop-up with text like this when you try to send something, it could mean they’ve blocked you:
- This person isn’t receiving messages at this time.
- This person isn’t receiving messages right now.
Check the conversation history. If you’ve exchanged messages in the past but you suddenly have no message history, you were most likely blocked at one time and then unblocked.
Why Someone Isn’t Responding on Messenger
There are many reasons your texts might not be read or responded to, even if you’re not blocked. Here are a few examples:
They’ve Turned Off Read Receipts
If the other person has disabled read receipts in Messenger, you won’t know when they’ve seen your messages. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve blocked you or that you’re being ignored. They might have read the message immediately after you sent it, but with read receipts off, you can’t know for sure.
Notifications Are Disabled
This is straightforward—it’s hard to reply if they don’t know you’ve contacted them! They might have muted your conversation, turned off alerts in Messenger, or disabled all notifications on their device.
They’re Offline
Another simple explanation, but not one to overlook: Their phone might be in airplane mode or turned off. They’ll see your message when they get back online and open Messenger.
They No Longer Use Facebook or Messenger
Many people take breaks from social media sites like Facebook. While it’s easy to think you’re the reason someone isn’t responding on Messenger, they might have simply deactivated their Facebook account.
