Need more speed? Kingston just introduced the FURY Renegade G5 SSD, a super-fast PCIe 5.0 NVMe drive designed for gamers, video editors, and software developers.
Equipped with a modern PCIe Gen 5×4 controller and 3D TLC NAND, the FURY Renegade G5 SSD boasts sequential read speeds of 14,800MB/s and write speeds of 14,000MB/s (that’s over 14 gigabytes per second). Random read speeds clock in at 2,200,200 IOPs, and the drive features DDR4 DRAM cache, meaning that file retrieval should be incredibly fast, even when working with large media databases or asset-heavy games.
The drive is fairly power-efficient, too. It consumes a maximum 6.6-9.5 watts under load, depending on drive capacity. Kingston suggests that this power efficiency will translate to improved thermal performance, though it doesn’t provide any data to verify this claim. In any case, the drive is rated for extremely high endurance—Kingston says you can expect between 1PB TBW from the 1TB model and 4PB TBW from the 4TB unit. High endure is great for gamers, though I assume that this will mainly appeal to professionals in media, software development, or AI.

So much speed, but I have no way to take advantage of it.
All things considered, the FURY Renegade G5 SSD is in a class of its own. The closest comparison is Samsung’s 9100 PRO SSD, which matches the read speed of the Kingston but falls short in write speed (Samsung also boasts a slightly higher TBW than Kingston, though the difference is negligible).
As for whether this drive will provide real-world performance gains—well, the short answer is “no, not unless you own a state-of-the-art rig.” If you stick the FURY Renegade G5 in a PCIe Gen 4 slot, you’ll get PCIe Gen 4 speeds. And even if you’ve got a compatible system, your CPU may present a bottleneck in tasks that require a lot of processing, such as gaming.
So, if you can’t afford an insane “end game” PC rig, skip the FURY Renegade G5 and buy a good PCIe Gen 4 drive instead. You’ll save a lot of money in the process.
The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 SSD is available today with prices starting at $204. Drive capacity options are currently limited to 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB, with the highest-capacity model clocking in at an eye-watering $604.

The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 SSD boasts sequential read speeds of 14,800MB/s and write speeds of 14,800MB/s, making it one of the fastest NVMe M.2 drives available today. That said, you’ll need PCIe Gen 5-compatible hardware to really take advantage of this drive’s capabilities.
