Next Time You Shop on Amazon, You Can Grab Pet Medications Too

Amazon has teamed up with Vetsource, a pet pharmacy, to sell prescription medications for pets in the U.S. This makes life a lot easier if you’re a pet owner, as you can now get FDA-approved treatments delivered right to your door.

Amazon Expands Into Pet Prescriptions With Vetsource

If your pet needs prescribed medication, such as flea preventatives or treatment for a chronic condition, you can now order it directly on Amazon. You can use the Amazon Shopping app or head to Amazon.com on a desktop browser.

Just search for the medication, add it to your cart, and enter your vet’s contact information at checkout. The search is straightforward, but it’s always helpful to use Amazon search tricks to find what you want faster.

From there, Vetsource takes over. They confirm the prescription with your vet and ship the medication once it’s approved. First-time orders typically ship within 2 to 6 days. If you’ve already ordered the medication and still have refills available, Vetsource usually won’t need to contact your vet again.

The feature is now available to customers across the U.S. According to Vetsource’s website, they have three pharmacy locations in Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas, from which all orders are shipped.

Amazon says it added the service because people treat their pets like family and want simpler ways to care for them. Wendy Franks, Director of Amazon Pets, had this to say in Amazon’s news release,

We know animals are not just pets; they’re family. That’s why we’re so excited about being able to expand our pet offerings to include prescriptions.

Convenience at Doorstep for Pet Owners

Pet care is already one of Amazon’s fastest-growing categories. You can buy food, toys, crates, and prescription meds all on the same cart. That’s convenient if you’re juggling a busy schedule or live far from a vet clinic.

Because Amazon’s “deals” aren’t always what they seem.

This move also helps Amazon compete with other big names. Walmart began offering pet medications in 2019, and Chewy has its own online pharmacy. But by integrating it into the regular Amazon shopping experience, the company may have an edge, especially for people who already log into Amazon for most of their home needs.

It’s also a smart step to widen access. Not every town has a nearby pet pharmacy, and many people can’t easily get to one. Ordering from home, with the peace of mind that a licensed provider like Vetsource is handling the prescription, makes the whole process feel effortless and reliable.

For pet owners, this means fewer errands and more peace of mind. For Amazon, it’s another step toward becoming the one-stop shop for everything, even your four-legged family members.
