Roku’s just-announced streaming sticks are a low-cost way to turn any TV into a smart streamer.

The highlight of Roku’s announcements were the Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus.

Both sticks are 35 percent smaller than other devices on the market. They are designed to be power efficient and can be powered directly from your TV’s HDMI port. That helps eliminate a hanging power cord, which is especially a problem with a mounted TV. The smaller footprint will also not block neighboring HDMI ports.

With the small design and lack of a power cord, both devices are easy to take with you while traveling, so you’ll always be entertained.

The Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Streaming Stick Plus retail for $29.99 and $39.99, respectively. Both devices can be pre-ordered today on Roku’s site and officially arrive on May 6. The Streaming Stick provides 1080p resolution while the Streaming Stick Plus offers 4K streaming. Each device comes with a Roku remote.

Upgraded Plus Series TVs and New Smart Cameras

While Roku is most well-known for its streaming devices, the company has also improved its smart TV lineup. The Plus Series now uses Mini-LEDs. Mini-LED TVs combine deep blacks of an OLED set with LED brightness. A remote finder button on the TV will also allow you to locate your remote without digging through couch cushions.

The Plus Series will now also feature Roku Smart Picture Max that automatically adjusts picture settings on a scene-by-scene basis.

Roku is also continuing to expand its lineup of smart home products. Both the Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus are weather-resistant and don’t require a constant power source, making them perfect to place outdoors.

The Battery Camera can go for up to six months on a single charge with the Battery Camera Plus lasts for up to two years with built-in rechargeable batteries. You can see the camera feed on any Roku device at home, or the Roku Smart Home app away from a streaming device.

An Improved Sports Zone and More

Roku also announced a number of new software features arriving in the coming months.

A “Coming Soon to Theaters” row on Roku devices will let you know about the biggest premieres arriving soon. If you’d rather not head to the theater, you can add it to a Save list and get a notification when it’s available to stream.

In the Sports Zone, you’ll be able to see personalized highlights row with clips from the teams you’re a fan of. On the Roku mobile app, you can select your favorite team and then receive a notification when the game has begun.

Roku Continues to Impress With Low-Cost Streaming Devices and Great Software

Roku continues to lead the streaming device war thanks to its well-made and inexpensive products. Both the Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus look to be hits with a small footprint and the ability to be powered directly from a TV.

If you’re new to the world of Roku, or just want to make the most of your device, there are a wide variety of Roku apps for endless entertainment. There are also a number of alternative ways to use a Roku device to do everything from stream a Plex library to playing mobile games on the big screen.
