Ultra-low prices combined with a gamified shopping experience and a seemingly endless selection of products have made Temu a go-to shopping destination for budget-conscious buyers. But that might soon change, with the company preparing to adjust its prices.
Temu’s Prices Are Set to Increase, Starting April 25
Ever since its launch in 2022, Temu has given e-commerce platforms like Amazon and eBay a run for their money. Now, nearly three years since said launch, Temu has announced:
“Due to recent changes in global trade rules and tariffs, our operating expenses have gone up. To keep offering the products you love without compromising on quality, we will be making price adjustment starting April 25, 2025.”
As a result, the company is encouraging customers to “shop now at today’s rates” before the price hike sets in.

Rising Tariffs Spell Trouble for Overseas Retailers
There are multiple factors at play behind Temu’s decision to raise prices across the board. One key factor, of course, is the increase in US tariffs on goods imported from China.
Another is that the US is putting an end to the de minimis exemption on May 2, which companies like Temu have relied on this heavily over the years. The CBC claims as many as four million low-value products arrive in the US every day under this exemption, which allows sellers to ship products valued under $800 directly to US consumers without having to pay additional duties or tariffs. This gave overseas sellers a major pricing advantage, but with this loophole now closing, Temu is forced to pass on some of those extra costs to the consumer.
It’s worth noting that Temu has moved away from its direct-from-China supply model over time. Instead, the company now fulfills some orders from within the US. Despite that, a lot of its core offerings still come from Asian marketplaces, which means much of Temu’s inventory will be subject to tariffs and trade restrictions.
In related news, Shein, a fast fashion retailer with a base in China, announced that it, too, would raise prices for US consumers. Temu and Shein are also slashing their digital advertising spends in response to the changing global trade and tariff rules.

And although you might be in a hurry to snag products at the current ultra-low prices, you shouldn’t make Temu purchases without checking key details. As always, remember that products might look great at first glance, but it pays to double-check what you’re getting for the price.
